Herb Casey, Parish Deacon
Deacon Herb Casey was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Oakland Diocese in November 2008 and was assigned by the Bishop to St John Vianney (SJV). Deacon Herb has been happily married to Peggy Casey since 1966. They have three daughters and six grandchildren. A graduate in Finance from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1969, Deacon Herb and his family settled in the Bay Area in 1972. Herb also completed an MBA program from John F. Kennedy University here in California in 1985. Prior to his ordination, Herb worked for 31 years in the Auditor Division for two major banks and retired in 2003. Besides various liturgical duties at St. John Vianney, Deacon Herb and his wife continue to work for the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, Inc. (Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers) as Mission Promoters serving the Western Regional area in the U.S. Also, Herb is active in various SJV ministries including Hospital Ministry, Communion Services Ministry in local rest homes, Contra Costa Loaves & Fishes Ministry, and the Just Faith Ministry. Deacon Herb and his wife also lead a Maryknoll Affiliates group in the Concord/Clayton area. Also, they are active members on various committees for the Oakland Diocesan Deacon Community. In Administration at SJV since 2004, Parishioner of SJV since 1992 Ministry duties include Finance, Facilities, Human Resources, Event Coordination, Safety and Ministry Coordination. Debbie has been a catechist and currently works with children in Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Education: UCSD-BA majored in Sociology, Coleman College-BS in Computer Science, UC Berkeley-MBA Resides in Concord, Married to Jerry. Their daughter Kate is married to David Nicol. Their son Jeff currently lives far away in Paris, France and their daughter Jennifer currently lives in Walnut Creek. Born in Pueblo, CO and grew up in San Diego, CA. Enjoys reading, hiking, following the Giants in baseball, camping, going to Disneyland, faith-sharing, and spending time with family and friends. Not necessarily in that order!

Liz has been at St. John Vianney Parish since May 2016.
Charlene is a resident of Hayward and a San Francisco Bay Area native who brings her many talents to St. John Vianney Parish in the volunteer staff roll of Director of Communications & Community Relations.
Charlene graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education with emphasis on choral conducting and classical voice. In a addition, she received a degree in Business Administration with emphasis on Finance and Accounting. She previously worked in Alternative Investments (Hedge Funds/ Venture Capital Funds, Family Offices, Philanthropic Funds and Foundations) but has transitioned to a full time position as a Financial Controller at GIveWell, a San Francisco based non-profit.
In addition to full time work, Charlene is full time mother to Isabella Aria (who you may see running around during masses) and a volunteer musician with the Sunday 5pm Youth Choir at St. John Vianney.
In her capacity as Director of Communications & Community relations, Charlene will be managing the production of the Weekly Bulletin, Website, Parish Facebook and Email communications. In addition, she is working with various staff members on Community Events and Parish Welcoming.
Marie has been at St. John Vianney Parish since 1995. As the Pastoral Associate for Young Family Faith Formation Marie oversees Faith Formation for children and Sacrament preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation for children and youth up to the age of 18. She loves working with all age levels and feels blessed to part of our parish Faith Formation Team.
Therese Gorman is resident of Livermore, and a consummate performer, conductor, and private instructor. She received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with an educational emphasis in 2005 from Holy Names University and has been a teacher and director in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oakland since 2008. She currently directs Middle School Choirs at Saint Theresa’s in Oakland, General Music at St. Theresa’s for K-5, has a private voice studio in Livermore, and leads music discovery at Livermore Learning Tree Preschool and Daycare.
Therese Gorman comes with nearly 20 years of experience planning and executing liturgy and music. In the last 10 months she has served in a relief capacity as Interim Director of Music Ministries at St. Theresa’s in Oakland and Interim Director of Music Ministries at St. Michael’s in Livermore. Her passion has always been liturgical music and so is grateful for another opportunity to serve in this capacity.
SJV Staff since 2011 and I am so happy to be working where I worship. I was born in San Francisco and raised in Walnut Creek and have been a parishioner since 1968. I have been involved in a number of ministries over the years. Currently, I am a greeter at the 11 am Mass and also a member of the bereavement & hospitality ministry. When not working I love to garden, sew, read, camp and fish.
